So many first-time clients ask me “what can I do to help my spell work, work faster, etc?” that I decided to write this article.

First, I want to dispel the myth of “instant magick” (where you cast a spell and a smoke from the spell rises, finds your lover and “pow” hits them in their heart and they “instantly” love you more, follow you around like a dog in heat, and confess their undying love. Sorry, but I think television and movies have much as much blame perpetuating this myth as do our over-active imaginations.

Nothing in our world happens overnight. Everything in nature (and in the supernatural) takes time. You plant a seed today, and do not expect a tree tomorrow. A woman has sex with a man, and though the process of conception can begin instantly from the moment the sperm reaches the egg, so it is with love spells and magick in general.

I use this example of human conception to explain how magick works. In the background the sperm reaches and penetrates the egg and the process of life begins. When you cast a spell, it is very similar. The ritual and/or words of power (sperm), impregnates the ether/spiritual world and ‘conception’ (your spells’ goals) takes place! Your goal is beginning to form and manifest from that moment on.

With magick, it may take days, weeks or months for your spell to fully come to pass. Much depends on your particular circumstances and whay you do after the spell has been cast. Once a spell is cast, there are things that you do in the physical, mundane world which affects the progress of your spell coming true.

But just like human conception, a woman can abort that new life forming in her womb, sometimes clients can also “abort” the purpose of their spell!

One of the ways clients can interrupt their spell from manifesting is by doing dumb things like arguing with a lover they are trying to attract.

Sounds too simple, but really, if you are trying to win someone over, arguing, disagreeing, nagging, etc. is not the way!

Clients trying to find a new lover (i.e. soul mate or someone to date) should do common sense things like trying to improve their appearance through grooming, and simply putting themselves in positions where they can meet new people.

Many of my clients are shy, or lack appropriate social skills and are uncomfortable meeting new people. That’s ok, but if you just try (go out and be seen by many) you stand to improve the chances that your spell will work and will work - fast!

For those trying to win back a lover, sometimes the bridge of communication has been destroyed. Your options are limited, or you cannot for one reason or another contact your ex-love.

Put on your thinking cap! You may not be able to speak directly to your lover but could know someone in common that could deliver a message.

If you and your lover are in two different cities for example, with no communication at all (or your ex refuses to speak to you), then this is when a positive mental attitude will save your sanity, as well as help the spell work.

Thoughts are “things”, they form the basis of all we experience in life in one way or another. When you have a positive outlook and refrain from worrying, positive things happen to you. So, even if you think there is nothing you can do to help the spell, try staying calm, and give the spell a chance to work - you maybe pleasantly surprised by the results!

The basic principle of magic (or sometimes spelled with a “k” at the end to differentiate it from stage magic) is that magick is al around us, in the seas, the forests, and the crowded centers we call cities.

It is in us. It is not the reseve of just some people, but is accessible to anyone approaching it with respect and a down-to-earth attitude.

What is necessary then? A clear mind, a set goal, and belief. Focus all of these and direct the energy towards your goal, and half the magick is already done!

I and many witches and spell casters often work with dieties, spiritual guides and cast powerful spells using simple and complex rituals. It all really depends on the need, the goal, what you have on hand and, your instincts.

There are many books on the market providing spells, and you can use these as a guide to create our own. I personally believe that the best spells come from the heart - once you know what tools correspond with your goal.

Ask 20 witches and spell casters what spells are and you will receive 20 different answers. Basically, spells are words and/or rituals of power that direct the driving impulse in the ether, the invisible energy behind things that can be seen.

Magic is simply concentrating and directing your focused thoughts to any aim or person to achieve a desired result

Knowing your own heart is most important. The rest is as simple as aiming a ball at a net or a dart at a dartboard.

A love spell will help you aim Cupid’s arrow to find your own true love or keep the one you have.

With some spells, you can reverse the power of the love spell if you have a change of heart.

This is really helpful if someone has cast a love spell on you, and you do not consent!

However, there are some spells which cannot be reversed. This is important to know because with these spells, you and your lover are bound throughout eternity - even after death.

You may get caught up in the romantic notion of forever, but realize that eternity is a really l-o-n-g time. People change, and therefore these are last resort spells and only when you are certain and do not care about the consequences.

Luckily, eternal love spells are not found on the internet nor in books. It is usually very secretive (with good reason), and only a few know how to cast them.

I have in my practice cast these types of spells but only just a handful. I highly discourage clients from requesting these!

Why? Because, though it is natural to be attracted to another person. Love is both ecstatic happiness and deep despair, both sweet and bitter.

Your mind may advise you not to love a worthless or unfaithful person, but the heart will continue to love because it cannot acept reason.

When you first fall in love, you see a fantasy of the person because you do not know the real him or her. You imagine that you know this person, but you don’t see the flaws, because only his or her best side is being shown to you.

Remember that in each relationship you risk losing your heart to love, and even though love spells really work, your lover is human, has flaws and a love spell won’t change this.
